Thatmovieguy Bio

It seems that before anyone can have a really good dialogue involving movies, its helpful to know where people are coming from. So first, list style!

Favorite year of movies: 1994. Why? Shawshank Redemption, one of the greatest films of all time came out. Forest Gump, another great film, took best picture while sadly snubbing other films such as Pulp Fiction. Lion King, while not my favorite Disney movie of all time, came out, and as far as I’m concerned this was the last true Disney movie that provided a high level of excellence. Well, presuming we aren’t going to count Pixar. While never really raking in much critical acclaim as far as I know, I am also a big fan of Woody Allen’s Bullets Over Broadway. But I’m also a sucker for John Cusack. Dumb and Dumber and the Mask might be the films that got me to appreciate mindless movie. And Timecop is an under appreciated masterpiece…just kidding. Still, 1994, I salute you.

Favorite B&W: In reality, its Casablanca, but for the risk of sounding too cliche’ I’ll go for the slightly less cliche’ choice in the best picture for 1960, The Apartment. Billy Wilder, as director, writes some brilliant stuff. Jack Lemon plays such a likable character…mmm…kind of want to go watch it right now. And who knew that the dad from My Three Sons could be a jerk?

Best impulse purchase: American Beauty. Had never seen it, saw it cheap on a “used” shelf. $5 for that brilliance. I usually am hesitant to pick something up before seeing it, but I felt totally compelled.

I know finishing movies…but I just couldn’t stomach anymore of: What the Bleep Do We Know?, Dances with Wolves, Private Matters in Public Places.

I could keep rambling, but that should give you good enough of an idea.  On with the show!
